Citizen's Academy (Registration Open for Spring Session)

The LCSO Citizen Academy has two sessions a year, a spring session and a fall session. The Citizen Academy will run one night a week for approximately 14 weeks including a Saturday field day.

The Citizens Academy is designed to give citizens an overview of the operations of the Larimer County Sheriff's Office.  Sessions covering patrol operations, investigations, crime lab, emergency management and emergency services, SWAT and other special units, and volunteer operations are scheduled.  These sessions are presented by the deputies and commanders responsible for each area.

In addition, the academy includes a tour of the jail, a look at the emergency communications center,  a K-9 demonstration and the opportunity to ride along with a deputy.  One of the highlights is a field day where citizens will participate in live scenarios responding to calls which includes live shooting with simulated ammunition, making a simulated traffic stop, and processing a mock crime scene.

The academy fills up fast, and the class size is limited to 35 students. The fee for the academy is $25 dollars, and that covers the cost of the students tee-shirt, and the lunch that is on the Saturday field training day. Participants will also have the opportunity to do a ride along with a patrol deputy as well. 

To be considered for the academy you need to be a resident of Larimer County, at least 18 years old, no felony convictions, and no misdemeanor convictions within the last three years.

Applications will only be accepted when the application tab is active on this web site. A copy of your driver's license and $25 dollars in either a check made out to the Larimer County Sheriff's Office, or cash must be submitted at the same time you apply.

The spring session will begin on March 27, 2012.  Classes will be held on Tuesday nights from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Registration deadline is March 16, 2012.  See the Spring Academy Schedule. (click to open)
