Issued 7/26/12 by John Schulz, Public Information Officer

Thomas Ray Collins, DOB: 041983, of Fort Collins, was arrested last night after leading Larimer County Sheriff's Office deputies on a short vehicle pursuit as well as a foot pursuit.  Larimer County Sheriff's Office K-9 units finally tracked Mr. Collins and assisted in his apprehension.

At approximately 8:30 p.m. last night, Larimer County Sheriff's Office investigators attempted a traffic stop on a 2003 Yamaha motorcycle on Magnolia Street near City Park Avenue.  As the vehicle turned westbound onto City Park Avenue, the suspect attempted to elude police.  The short vehicle pursuit ended in the 1600-block of Laporte Avenue when the suspect wrecked the motorcycle and fled from the area on foot.

K-9 units tracked the suspect to the 1600-block of Collins Court.  As deputies attempted to contact Mr. Collins, he refused to follow commands and subsequently fought with deputies who were trying to arrest him.  While deputies were struggling to control the suspect, one of the K-9 units assisted in trying to control him.  As a result, the suspect received two dog bites after which deputies were able to subdue the suspect.

It was learned later the motorcycle Mr. Collins was riding was stolen.  A subsequent search of his belongings discovered he was in possession of heroin and Oxycodone pills.

Thomas Collins was arrested for Theft by Receiving (F4), Vehicular Eluding (F5), two counts of Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance (F6), Tampering with Physical Evidence (F6), Violation of Bail Bond Conditions (F6), Resisting Arrest (M2), Obstructing a Peace Officer (M2), 2nd Degree Criminal Trespass (M3), Driving under Restraint (M0), Driving under the Influence of Drugs (M0), and Reckless Driving (T2).

Mr. Collins was treated at a local hospital for the dog bites and is currently in the Larimer County Jail awaiting a bond hearing.

The charges are merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
