Issued 8/22/12 by John Schulz, Public Information Officer
Massachusetts police along with the Federal Bureau of Investigation have arrested Andrew J. Myers, DOB: 081978, of Northbridge, Massachusetts, after receiving information from the Larimer County Sheriff's Office regarding Mr. Myers allegedly contacting a 12-year-old Estes Park boy via the internet and making inappropriate suggestions.
On July 24, 2012, the Larimer County Sheriff's Office was contacted by the mother of the 12-year-old boy who reported that a 33-year-old man was corresponding and chatting with her son over the internet and the content was sexual in nature. The mother provided investigators with a 29-page transcript of several of the chat discussions.
Larimer County Sheriff's Office investigators identified the suspect, who had been using a false identity on-line, as well as other possible victims that were located in Massachusetts. Subsequently, an arrest warrant was obtained by Larimer County Sheriff's Office investigators for Mr. Myers on one count of Internet Sexual Exploitation of a Child. That information was immediately shared with Massachusetts police and the FBI which led to the additional charges by federal authorities.
Sheriff Justin Smith reminds parents and their kids that not everyone is who they represent themselves to be on the internet. Sheriff Smith urges parents to closely monitor their kids' internet activities to prevent inappropriate activity.
The charge(s) are merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
