High Park Fire Update for 7/5/12

Please support our firefighters by obeying the statewide fire ban which includes fireworks. Fire danger is still very high.
A local management team, led by Andy Branson, will be taking over incident command at 6:00 a.m. on July 6th. Fire crews continue patrolling the fire perimeter and conducting fire line rehabilitation; “rehab” may reduce impacts (e.g. erosion) from the hand and dozer fire lines, roads, trails, staging areas, safety zones, and drop points used during firefighting efforts. Chippers continue to work along roadsides to clean up debris that was cut prior to burn out operations last week.
The public is reminded to drive cautiously and reduce speed when travelling on roads near the fire. Drivers should stay alert for firefighters and their equipment, distracted drivers, and rocks or debris on the roads.
Resources: 128 personnel, 2 - Type 2 hand crews, 7 engines, 1 dozer, 3 water tenders, 1 light (Type 3) helicopter.
An interagency Burned Area Emergency Response team has conducted their first field visit to gather information and observations to determine how to reduce impacts of post-fire conditions. Wildfires can increase the potential for flooding, erosion, mudslides, sedimentation, and debris flow.

The Disaster Recovery Center will close on Friday, July 6th at 4p.m.; hours will be cut-back on Thursday and Friday, from 9am-4p.m. The Center is located at Johnson Hall on the Colorado State University campus in Fort Collins. Information and Internet links will continue to be available at the County’s web site, www.larimer.org, on the County’s High Park Fire web pages.
The Red Cross has opened three Disaster Information Sites for residents displaced by wildfires in the Fort Collins area. The sites will be open through Friday, July 6, from 9:00am to 3:00pm. Each site will have resources and information passersby might need during the recovery process. Each site will be staffed by Health Services, Mental Health, Client Casework and “Safe and Well” workers. Location of Sites: Glacier View Meadows (Gate Number 1, by the mailboxes); Vern’s Restaurant, LaPorte; and Poudre Park Fire Station (Community center parking area, Poudre Park).
