On Thursday, July 13, 2017, an inmate in the Larimer County Jail approached a deputy who was occupied and attending to other inmates at the time. The inmate, Victor Altamirano (DOB: 09/04/83), then grabbed the deputy’s Conducted Electrical Weapon, commonly referred to as a TASER, and attempted to remove it from the deputy’s holster. The deputy was able to retain possession of the weapon, and gained control over Altamirano until other deputies could respond and assist. Altamirano was moved to a secure location within the Jail, and no injuries to deputies or inmates were reported.

Deputies will screen this incident with the District Attorney’s Office and seek an allegation against  Victor Altamirano for Criminal Attempt to Disarm a Peace Officer, a class 6 Felony.

The charges are merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until, and unless, proven guilty.
