On the morning of 2/27/17, Berthoud Fire responded to a report of a small, single engine aircraft down in Culver Reservoir, near the intersection of County Roads 2 and 23 in Larimer County at approximately 7:45 a.m. Loveland Fire Rescue Authority and Larimer County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist with dive teams. Divers entered the water at approximately 8:03 a.m. and removed two adult males from the plane, who were then transported to an area hospital. The total time the males were in the water is 50 minutes, they were declared deceased at the hospital. Their identities will be released at a later time by the Coroner’s Office.
The FAA and NTSB have been notified and will investigate the incident. Efforts to recover the plane are being conducted by LCSO Emergency Services, Berthoud Fire, and Larimer County Dive Rescue.
